Linking Public Health and Personal Health Information :
A vision of regional health information technology architectures.

The abstract:

As computer technology becomes more central in the recording of health care information and the delivery of health care services it is necessary to move the discussion of architecture outside of the boundaries of individual institutions and discrete health information systems applications. A regional health information technology architecture details the communications requirements, information standards, and organizational issues necessary to permit inter-organizational information sharing and linking of personal health data with public health information.
